Since its creation in 2009, ALIMA has treated more than 10 million patients and today deploys its operations in 11 African countries. In 2021 we developed 60 humanitarian medical response projects to meet the needs of populations affected by conflicts, epidemics and extreme poverty. All of these projects are carried out in support of national authorities through nearly 357 health facilities (including 45 hospitals and 312 health facilities). Whenever possible We work in partnership with local NGO’s to ensure that our patients benefit from the best and most relevant expertise wherever it is, whether within their own country or in the rest of the world. In addition, to improve the humanitarian response, we are carrying out operational and clinical research projects particularly in the field of the fight against malnutrition and viral hemorrhagic fevers
ALIMA’S TEAM: more than 2000 people are currently working for ALIMA. The field teams, closest to the patients, receive their support from coordination teams generally based in the countries’ capitals. These receive support from the 4 desk teams and the emergency and opening team based at the operational headquarters in Dakar, Senegal. The Paris and New York teams are actively working to raise funds and represent ALIMA. The rest of the ALIMA Galaxy includes individuals and partner teams working on behalf of other organizations such as medical NGOs BEFEN, ALERT Health, SOS Doctors / KEOOGO, AMCP, research organizations PACCI and INSERM, Bordeaux or Copenhagen Universities, the INGO Solidarités International and many others.

ALIMA in Cameroon
ALIMA’s aim since its creation in 2009 is to provide a high standard of healthcare in situations of emergency or medical disaster and to improve the practice of humanitarian medicine by developing innovative projects associated with medical research.

The Alliance for International Medical Action, ALIMA, with its headquarters in Dakar Senegal, was founded in 2009. Since its inception, the organisation has treated more than 2 million people while implementing 56 programmes, in 12 countries, in West and Central Africa. It has launched 15 research projects focussing on malnutrition, malaria, Ebola …. ALIMA currently has a dedicated team of professional staff working in acute emergencies and recurring crises in Africa.
The organisation has been implementing Primary Health Care, obstetrics & gynaecological, paediatrics and nutritional intervention to the Cameroonian population affected by the Boko Haram insurgency since 2016 in Mokolo, Makary and Mada.
CONTEXT
In the North West (NW), ALIMA intends to implement a project with two interventions: a short-term emergency intervention and a COVID 19 response and mitigation. Whereas the exploratory mission will help the organisation understand the exact medical needs of the population on the ground, the second one will aim at strengthening strategies in addressing the COVID-19 pandemic. The activities in the NW shall include training of health care workers as well as mitigating the affected population’s access to primary health care, obstetric & gynaecological, paediatrics and nutritional interventions. The project targets Internally Displaced Persons, the host community and other populations at risk.
PROTECTION OF BENEFICIARIES AND MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITY
As part of his or her duties, the incumbent will be required to visit programs and be in contact with children and/or vulnerable adults. Therefore, a criminal record check or presentation of a certificate of good character will be required. In situations where it is not possible to provide a criminal record or a certificate of good morals and morals, a sworn statement will be requested.

MISSION AND MAIN ACTIVITIES
The Project Coordinator is responsible for ALIMA operational response in the Project. In close collaboration with the mission coordination team, define and plan the Project objectives and priorities, identifying population’s health and humanitarian needs, analyzing the context and the humanitarian issues at stake, the risks and constraints and calculating human and financial needs. Coordinates, in close collaboration with the Head of Mission, its implementation.
MAIN ACTIVITIES
Supervises the political and humanitarian situation in the project’s
Evaluates all needs by identifying the population’s health status, by analysing the context (environment, actors involved, negotiations for access etc.) and associated risks and constraints
Monitor the security situation in the area of intervention, propose security guidelines and guarantee their implementation
Proposes and carries out exploratory missions
Ensures a data collection and epidemiological surveillance system, in agreement with the Medical Coordinator
Steers and supervises the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the project in collaboration with the project team and according to the internal and donor indicators
Provides reporting to the coordination team on project’s evolution and propose corrections if needed
Elaborates the Project’s institutional memory, keeping written records (and file them) on its development
Supervises full implementation of safety and health protocols, reporting the Medical Coordination on risky behaviors’
Identifies training needs, provides individual follow up and coaching,
Supervises the project material resources put at ALIMA’s disposition
Supervises all orders (medical and logistical) and the Project’s purchases as well as the financial indicators, with the support of the coordination, in order ensure efficiency and early detect deviations and its causes
Experience and Skills
University degree or paramedical diploma/degree desirable.
Previous experiences in humanitarian aid
Experiences with international medical NGOs & experience in project management are desirable.
Experience in security management is highly desirable.
English Speaking, reading, and writing are mandatory. French is an asset.
Essential computer literacy (word, excel & internet).
Negotiation skills
Strong interpersonal skills
Conditions
Contract term: Contract under French law; contract length: 6 months, renewable.
Position to be filled: ASAP
Salary: depending on experience
ALIMA pays for:
Travel costs between the expatriate’s country of origin and the mission location accommodation costs
Medical cover from the first day of the contract to a month after the date of departure from the mission country for the employee and his/her family
Evacuation of the employee
